Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters
The Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters (FFPW) operates under the University of South Bohemia. It stands as Europe's premier institute, offering a comprehensive range of Bachelor's, Master's, and Postgraduate programs. Additionally, it conducts scientific and applied research, and holds inaugural and professorial rights in fisheries and water protection domains.
FFPW encompasses three research institutes, collectively forming the CENAKVA research center. Recognized on the Czech Republic's map of significant research infrastructures, CENAKVA is dedicated to understanding freshwater ecosystem changes, emphasizing biodiversity, water environment protection, and water resource management.
Project activities primarily unfold within the Laboratory of Germ Cells. This laboratory pursues both fundamental and applied research, particularly in reproductive biology, germ cell cryopreservation, in vitro culture, and surrogate fish reproduction. Routine methodologies include gene expression analysis, gene and genome manipulations, histological procedures, and transplantation experiments. Furthermore, the laboratory plays a pivotal role in developing germplasm storage techniques as part of the National Programme on Conservation of Farm Animal Genetic Resources.
