PhD 1
Validation of improved protocols for the vitrification of teleost gonadal tissue
Location: Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), Norway
Main Supervisor: Prof. Ian Mayer, E-mail: Ian.Mayer@nmbu.no
Participating researchers: Dr. Martin Pšenička (USB), Dr. Jaana Peippo (NordGen)
Objectives:
Develop and validate a method for the vitrification of gonadal tissue from teleost species
Validate recovery success of frozen/thawed fragments in vitro
Application of laser cryotome to visualize and characterize freeze-thaw damage in gonadal tissue
Expected Results:
Establish vitrification protocols for the successful cryopreservation of gonadal tissue.
Confirm viability of germ cells/primary oocytes harvested from cryopreserved ovarian fragments.
Planned secondments: (Host, Supervisor, timing, length, and purpose)
JU (USB), Pšenička, M10, 1 M, vitrification of fish ovarian tissue
INIAV, Pereira, M14, 3 M, vitrification of bovine ovarian tissue
